Why Service Registries Matter? ๐
A service registry is a database for the storage of data structures for application-level communication. It serves as a central location where app developers can register and find the schemas used for particular apps.
Modern software design relies on distributed and loosely coupled microservices which exchange data through application programming interfaces (APIs).
Across a large enterprise and beyond, this exchange of data among applications is mission critical. All of your applications are sending data back and forth every second to keep your business up and running. So ensuring the integrity of that data is critically important. And how do you make sure all these diverse applications are equipped to actually consume this vital data? One of the key solutions is a service registry.

The popular third-party Reddit app Apollo is shutting down on June 30, 2023, as a direct result of Redditโs recently announced new API pricing plans which would end up costing Apollo $20 million per year to continue to operate its business โ an unsustainable ask for an indie developer.
The appโs maker, Christian Selig, had been one of the first to call out the impact Redditโs new API pricing would have on third-party Reddit apps, noting that even if Apollo switched to a subscription-only model, it would still be in the red under the new API guidelines. Since then, other app makers have come forward to share their same concerns and community backlash has prompted a site-wide protest with several top communities planning to go dark to send a message to Reddit leadership.
